Tumescent Liposuction

Published on: April 7, 2014

Many people commonly mistake liposuction as a cure for obesity when in fact, liposuction is actually most affective for people who are relatively fit. Often times adults find that they are able to maintain an ideal weight but still have areas of fat deposits that they can not get rid of. These are the patients that find liposuction to give them the best results. Tumescent liposuction is one of the most common methods for removal of fat deposits in the abdomen, thighs, hips, waist, back, arms, knees, and jowls. For those who are significantly over weight or obese, a dramatic change in lifestyle or gastro bypass surgery will give them greater results.

Many dermatologists are now able to perform tumescent liposuction in their offices. With this procedure, the doctor will inject a sterile solution of salt water, an anesthetic, and a drug that will cause the blood vessels to constrict. This solution will cause the affected areas of fatty deposits to swell and stiffen and helps the doctor more easily determine which fatty areas need to be removed. The doctor will make small incisions in the skin and insert a thin tube that will be attached to a vacuum to suction out fat and fluids from the body.

For those who maintain their weight and keep a healthy lifestyle (regular exercise and not smoking), results from liposuction are generally long lasting. Talk to your dermatologist today for information regarding tumescent liposuction and to determine if this procedure is right for you.
